If you think shorts are just for the boys or the football pitch, think again. They are now considered a perfectly acceptable piece of clothing to wear on the beach, in town or even as part of your work attire. The trick is to find shorts fit for the occasion. Not convinced? From weekends to weekdays, here’s how to wear shorts this summer.
1. Home comforts
Comfortable and practical, you’ll be grateful you own a pair of jogger shorts when the temperatures rises and you’re spending the day at home. Whether you’re multitasking around the house or simply relaxing catching up on the latest episode of Peaky Blinders, a pair of jogger shorts are the perfect alternative to your trusty tracksuit bottoms. Wear with a plain t-shirt and trainers or plimsolls to look presentable on your off-duty day.
2. Easy weekends
It’s pretty simple really – if you spend your weekends living in jeans, why not switch it up during a heatwave to a pair of denim shorts? You can then wear this addition to you inventory with just about anything you’d usually team with jeans. Don’t overcomplicate it and stick to denim shorts with a printed t-shirt and plimsolls during the day, and remember to take a jersey hoodie for the cooler evenings.
3. On the beach
The holidays are coming…That’s right, the summer holidays are almost here and you’ll probably in need of a pair of shorts that will serve you well both beachside and by the bar. Well, why not try and combine them both? You can wear plain swimshorts when you head to a local restaurant for lunch, just team them with a polo shirt and pair of slip on loafers.
4. At a sporting event this summer
From the Euros to the Olympics in Rio, this summer certainly will be one of sport. Ensure you look casually smart while taking advantage at your local watering hole or if you’re lucky enough to be at an actual event by switching your chinos for a pair of chino shorts. Easy to wear and versatile, wear with a casual shirt and a pair of boat shoes or even a t-shirt layered under a short sleeve shirt. Add a belt to bring the look together.
5. To work
Yes, you can pull off a pair of shorts in the office (dress code permitting) but make sure they fall into the smart or smart-casual category and wear with a smart shirt and blazer. Choose either shorts of the chino variety or a more tailored version and pay attention to your footwear. Finally, pull the outfit together with a leather belt.
