It’s summer or at least that is what we keep telling ourselves. So take advantage of the warmer weather and hone your dating skills outdoors.
Whether you want to secure a second meet-up or remind her that she is more important than your beloved footie team, check out our 5 ideas to help you pull off the perfect summer date.
Nothing says romance more than a film under the stars. With locations springing up all over the country, you can take your pick from rooftops, boats, parks, drive-ins and erm, hot tubs. Check your local listings to find out what’s happening near you, choose a classic movie such as ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, ‘Grease’ or ‘The Goonies’ and hope that the sun keeps on shining. If not, drive-in cinemas are always an option.
Top tip: Heading outside? Remember to pack a blanket to offer to your date if it gets chilly.
Take advantage of a balmy afternoon and surprise your date with a picnic in the park. Pack a bottle of fizz (chilled if you can), strawberries, salad, dips, a French baguette or pitta bread and a picnic blanket, and head to a park where you can laze around in the blissful sunshine (or have a game of Frisbee).
Top tip: Show off your rowing skills by choosing a park with a boating lake and taking a half hour trip before you dine.
Now this one takes a bit more planning but it will be worth it. Hire bikes and plan a route that avoids any major roads such as along a canal towpath – you may want to ride it yourself first. If you’re looking for route suggestions, click here. Take her on a memorable active adventure. Just make sure you stop on the way for a drink at a local pub.
Top tip: It’s probably better if you tell your date in advance so she knows to wear appropriate gear.
You don’t have to do something as extravagant as hiring a barge to make the most of the waterlife in your local area. Try and find organised trips or boat hire nearby that will bring you closer to the water (and together). Forget trying to impress your date with your knowledge of local birds and spend the time getting to know her as you sail away in the sunshine.
Top tip: Try a guided tour as it’ll show that you’re interested in local wildlife and history plus you can use the information to spark off conversations later on.
What could be better than fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, a stroll along the promenade and old-fashioned amusement arcades? Hop on a train and take your date on a trip to your nearest seaside town this summer for a retro date that she’ll remember. With so much entertainment on offer, you can be spontaneous and go with the flow.
Top tip: Make sure you treat her to a classic 99 ice cream with all the toppings.
